Schwinn Speedometer Head Deluxe Dual-scale Vintage Huret Bicycle Bike Speedo

  

This is a very nice, fully reconditioned New Old Stock example of the. Schwinn Deluxe speedometer head, one of the most elaborate speedometers that Huret ever made for Schwinn, in full working order and with its outer MPH scale stamped in gold. This was their second-generation example, from the years after Schwinn phased out their original 0-60 MPH speedometer and transitioned to this dual-scale 0-40 MPH design, which includes a 0-60 KmH scale on the inner dial. This has had a complete disassembly, overhaul, cleaning and lube. It has been polished, waxed and reassembled, and is back in full working order with a very good shine.

The camera tripod is visible in Photo 5. The speedometer head is 2 3/8" wide, 2¼" high and 1 5/8 deep. It has a polished chrome rim, glass face and chrome housing, with the inner (KmH) numbers in white and the outer (MPH) in gold, on a textured black dial with bright orange pointer coloring.

All chrome has been polished to bring back the shine, and waxed to keep it that way. Datestamps in the upper right corner of the back indicates that it was to be assembled on the last (52nd) week of 1980, which for some reason never happened, and it was eventually used in production on the 6th week of 1986, at which time it was datestamped again. This has had a complete rebuild and reconditioning, and is all ready to go. T here is no accumulated mileage ; it's just passing 0000.

This head can be used in place of the older 0-60 MPH version with the same drive hardware, and can be used on any size of front wheel, as these Huret models are calibrated by the drive hub, not the speedometer head.
