Prewar Schwinn Excelsior Bicycle C Model Balloon Tire 1940 1941 40s Vintage Bike

  

For sale, a prewar Schwinn bicycle. A great piece of history. Tires and chain has been replaced (newer), everything else is original to the bike. Everything works on this bike with the exception of the coaster brake. This bike is in really good shape for its age.

The most remarkable part of this bike is the amazing original paint. Note: 1941 was a huge production year for Schwinn. With the war on the horizon, they knew they would be making war material instead of bikes so they cranked out everything they could before the changeover. 1941 used an H serial with 5 digits under the bottom bracket.

Schwinn records before 1948 were lost in a fire. The neck is a Wald No.

The late C-Model frames with the curved downtube from'40-41 has the same joint that this bike has. Note: C-model frames most commonly turns up 36-39 with a straight downtube. Late C frames with the curved downtube are from'40-41, which has the same joint that this bicycle has. Schwinn stopped producing the Excelsior motorcycles in 1931, due to the great depression.

20 frame (from bottom bracket to center of top tube). 26 x 2.125 balloon tires. Dropouts are horizontal with axle adjusters. Original "Kalamazoo Michigan" license plate on fender.
