The rear decal on the fender is worn, see pictures. This bicycle has the serial number located on the dropout by the rear axle nut: J02038.
This information was carefully compiled from a multitude of sources including company records and vintage catalogs. It is the best information that I have available.
The 1953 catalog shown on the site shows a bicycle very similar to this one but under a different name for Schwinn rather than BF Goodrich. Sometime about 20 years ago the tires had to be replaced.I have inflated them and they are holding air, not sure if they will stay that way but they have it in them now and have stayed at that level for at least three days now. To the best of my knowledge the headlight, seat, speedometer, pedals, handgrips and reflectors are all original to the bike, I remember them all from when I used to sit on Moms bike as a very young child in the 70s and wish that I was big enough that could ride it. Mom sadly has passed away, the pictures will need to speak to everything.
ALL pinstriping appears to my eye to have been done by hand and I would rather that someone with more expertise than I have shine it up! My mother was a decent sized woman, tall and of medium build and did ride it about 20-25 years ago with no problem, and she had it serviced and greased right around then, but it has been stored in a house up off of the floor with no use since.
I would have it checked, greased and okayed by a professional before attempting to ride it myself, so you will need to use your best judgement. The bicycle has ALWAYS been kept inside and in a climate controlled environment when not being used, but it has seen outside riding in its lifetime.
It shows 950 miles on the odometer currently. The luggage rack looks to be in good, solid serviceable condition as well. I believe the type of braking to be the coaster brake type, no hand brakes.
Looks to be 100% made right here in the USA, hard to find nowadays too! Youd have to look LONG and hard to find one in this great of condition!
