I have over 20 years experience fixing and restoring vintage road bikes and this is my passion. I'm very selective when I choose bikes to restore for resale. Only solid, high-quality bikes (good restoration candidates) make it through my shop. You will be impressed with the attention to detail that goes into every bike I offer for sale.
Investment grade "time capsule" bike! This is quite possibly the nicest example of a practically unused 1975 Schwinn Voyageur II (often referred to as "The Japanese Paramount"). This is a true survivor and is in time capsule condition awaiting its next owner. This museum quality, investment grade bicycle is suited for any collector or vintage cycling enthusiast.
You won't find another one like this. Frame build date of November, 1974. The bike was acquired from the original owner who only rode this bike a few times before it was stored away in a climate-controlled environment for over 40 years. The bike is 100% original with the exception of the cables and the air in the tires. The original owner had the Brooks Professional saddle installed by the dealer at the time of sale. Built in Japan for Schwinn by Panasonic, these bikes are known to have some of the highest build quality easily surpassing the US made models at the time. The Voyageur II offers 10 speeds with skip-tooth freewheel, chromed frame with exposed lugs and lightweight alloy components throughout. Despite the bike's large frame size, it weighs just 26 lbs as shown. The bike has been inspected, detailed and tuned by a professional bike mechanic and is 100% solid. All original components including the early Shimano "Le Tour" (Crane) and Titlist derailleurs with matching handlebar end shifters. Schwinn Dia Compe brake set with first-generation Dura Ace crankset. Aluminum Araya wheel set with large flanged quick-release Shimano hubs. Forged alloy Gran Compe stem, steeply raked randonneur handlebars and pivoting alloy seat post. The original Schwinn "Le Tour" tires have survived with age-related deterioration but hold air fine I will include brand new Kenda gumwall tires, inner tubes and rim strips for those who want to put the bike to good use!
The Brooks Professional saddle is in great shape. The bike rides like a classic Cadillac, yet handles like it's on rails even with the 45 year old tires. 64cm / 25 (from the center of the crank to the top tube).
62cm (from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube). 34.75 (top tube stand over height).
Based on the above geometry, the bike would be ideal for taller cyclists 6'0 plus in height. The factory paint is in immaculate condition hardly showing any use marks from storage and use. The original cable housings and handlebar tape are clean and fade-free.
The frame is 100% straight - NO rust, dents, bends or cracks. This bike is tight, very fast, clean, wheels are true and is ready to hit the road.
I would recommend keeping the original tires on for collectability purposes... Otherwise replace with the included set and rock on! More pictures are available upon request.
Local pick-up is available and encouraged if you're within driving distance to the Chicago/Milwaukee areas. Some assembly and set up will be required upon arrival since we remove the wheels, handlebars, pedals. To ensure that the bike arrives to you safely. If you are not familiar with assembly/set-up of bicycles, we suggest that you have a bike shop assemble and set up the bike for you - we cannot be responsible for damage or injury caused by improper assembly.
