Here is a May 1964 (E4xxxxx) Schwinn fenderless standard Stingray. 1964 was the first year Stingray bike appeared in the catalog. It is in original flamboyant lime colored factory paint.

This muscle bike has the original S-2 centered stamped 36 spoke Schwinn tubular back wheel. This wheel was only used in'63-'64.

After 1964, Schwinn went to a 28 spoke wheel. This doubled knurled wheel has a Bendix red band hub and brake arm. With the correct traction studded balloon Uniroyal Nobby tire.

The front wheel is a center stamped S-7 Schwinn tubular single knurled wheel. The hub is stamped Schwinn. The axel is date code stamped (2-64) February 1964.

This wheel has Westwind Schwinn middleweight tire. The front fork has a date code stamp of (5-4) May 1964 matching the May (E4) serial number on rear wheel stay. The headbadge is the correct non-Chicago ('63-'64 only) style. This classic bicycle has butterfly style apehanger handle bars found on the 1964 Stingrays with Schwinn approved black grips.

The pedals are the correct small cap union made found on the 1964 Stingray with diamond pattern. Seat post clamp is the Arnold Schwinn "AS" stamped clamp correct for 1964. This sissybar is a Persons USA stamped 1964 long crimp squreback with a 1964 Persons Solo Polo seat attached with Q-bolts. This black seat with original vinyl was available in Schwinn stores as a replacement seat for the white seat. The seat is all original with Personas Worcester, Mass. The seat still has the "Warning one rider" label on the pan.

The crank date is code stamped 1963. This is correct style crank. Parts left over from 1963 were used in 1964. The bike has the 1964 style head set top bearing cone threads down on top of forks.

The down tube has two bicycle license on the back side from 1972 and 1976 City of Aurora Colorado. The bike has replacement new tubes and the neck was replaced.

The bike has water transfer decals, aged to match the bike and sealed with high quality U-Pol UV Resistant clear coat. Decals look great with no signs of lines. Decals have a factory aged appearance. Noted flaws: Original vinyl on Solo Polo seat has tears on each side. Pan has rust behind the damaged vinyl.

Left pedal has bearing wear and does not spin freely. The blocks on pedals show lots of typical wear.

There is typical chrome loss at top of sissybar and top of handle bars. Paint has some scratches and scrapes.

With paint loss exposing the aluminum base coat. This loss is most evident on top bar and top side of chainguard. The paint has been preserved and treated to capture and maintain its current condition.

This should prevent future paint loss. Bike rides great and stops. Everything on the bike is in mechanically sound condition. The item "1964 Schwinn Stingray Flamboyant Lime Vintage Bicycle" is in sale since Thursday, April 21, 2016.
