1962 VTG Rare Schwinn Superior 15 Speed Bicycle Rides Very Nice
A May of 1962 (E= May, 2= 1962, 97= 97th frame built that month) Schwinn Superior 15 speed with 24 (61CM) frame in mostly original condition. Non-original are: front rim (early Japanese copy), rear derailleur (early next edition Huret maybe'64 model), and tires (replaced with period correct NOS Goodyear Lightweights with thorn resistant tubes). Wheel hubs have been serviced at the local Schwinn dealer but the crank hasn't been lubed yet with marine grease. Front rim is slightly out of true, the rear original rim a bit more so. New correct French handlebar tape. I haven't cleaned this bike at all, yet it presents fairly well outside of some original paint loss as shown. Most chrome is very nice while still unpolished. A watcher of this ad informs me he thinks its a'63 because of the wheels not being 26" but I think he's confusing this with the Varsity (the only racer which had 26" wheels in'62, then went to 27 wheels in 1963 according to the Schwinn catalogs). Another watcher who has a'62 says its a'62 with a slightly later Huret 600 front derailleur.
You be the judge of these arguments. Very rare in this uncommon color and tall frame combo. She's a bit small for me so it's for sale. Stand shown is not included. The item "1962 VTG Rare Schwinn Superior 15 Speed Bicycle Rides Very Nice" is in sale since Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
