Vintage Schwinn Collegiate, 1964, Coppertone, 100% service

  
Genuine article Sought after Radiant Coppertone! Sought after 21 frame for average sized adults. The frame and fork are straight with no cracks or repairs. First 2 of serial # is HC = Sept , 1964. 100% original paint with no touchups. The entirety of the bike was disassembled, degreased , thoroughly inspected and rebuilt using Lucas tacky red grease. All questionable bearings replaced , cones and cups in good order with no chatter on any bearing race.

This bike has a updated vintage Shimano indexing drive train with thumb shifter. (No searching for gears on this one) Its mid school stuff made with good old fashioned steel. ALL components of the drive train are new old stock. New MY 15 thumb shifter, sis innerwire and TY15 derailleur with correct sis outerhousing (sp41) The freewheel is a nos Shimano z012. Works absolutley awesome with nice crisp shifts.

Note : I did all this in great hopes that this bike goes back on the road as opposed to a lineup in someones collection. New brake pads front and rear. The fenders were disassembled so as to roll out the dents on my (American made , bicycle fender) english wheel. Nice but cant be made new and it is impossible to fix the saftey edges. All the fender braces were replaced with awesome Nos Schwinn ones. The bike has the original and hard to find Schwinn stamped alloy neck. Note : The handlebars are correct Schwinn stamped 7881's but are replacements from my stash as the originals had unacceptable chrome loss and rust. The wheels have been put on my truing stand and are well within spec of 2mm (more like 1mm) for radial and lateral dishing. The freewheel is also Nos ; Shimano Z012 , these had the twisted teeth and were the first of its kind for better upshifting.

The chain is a brand new rustbuster to handle whatever nature throws at it. I like these chains as they have bumpouts similiar to UG and modern HG systems for better shifting and work very well with the Z012 freewheel. The pedals are original, the grit was cleaned out , phil tenacious oil added and spin straight and true. All aluminum throughout given a high polish The bike has brand new tires bought for this build.. The generator and headlight are vintage Schwinn Approved.

The bike even has a brand new Schwinn chainslap protector. Theres just too much stuff to list.... I refuse to alter my processes ever. The bikes get what they need to be roadworthy and the best they can be irregardless of time, labor or cost.

This one has very good original paint for its age , iconic and sought after Radiant Coppertone. Last year of this color was 1968. Very nice but this is a vintage bicycle. It has survived use, wear and tear , the garbage man and the march of time. Note , last photo shows a incorrect derailleur/ shifter.

This iconic American bicycle will be packaged in a bike box. The bicycle will be insured. Plenty of pipe foam and other materials will be used to protect it to the very best of my ability.
