This is a professionally reconditioned 1981 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 vintage touring road bike. Frame build date of January 1981.

The bike is in used, but very nice condition for its age. This one comes from the golden age of lugged steel bicycles. The Voyageur 11.8 is highly regarded and often known as the "Japanese Paramount". Hand assembled in Panasonic's Japanese factory, the construction quality of the 4130 chromoly frame and components is top notch. Nice chrome fork ends and stays and quality original components. The bike was just professionally reconditioned by a mechanic who specializes in vintage road bikes - it's been refurbished to a high standard, tuned, detailed and ready to ride.

The frame has been polished out to a like-new luster, components removed and cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner and rebuilt for the reconditioning work. Over 12 hours of labor spent on getting the bike ready. CST Super HP gum wall tires (for period correct appearance). Perforated synthetic leather handlebar tape.

Cane Creek (Dia Compe) replacement brake lever hoods. Velo VL-1221 riveted synthetic leather saddle. Will include the old tires (only slightly worn), Avocet gel saddle, chain, cable housings and reflectors for the purists. All original hardware including the Shimano Altus LT derailleurs and Dia Compe "G" side pull brakes. Very lightweight and beautiful Sugino Super Maxy cranks.

Araya alloy wheels with quick release hubs. Kyokuto "Top Run" alloy pedals. SR stem, seat post and Road Champion handlebars. The bike is lightweight and rock solid.

Rides like a Cadillac, it's fast, stops on a dime and handles like a dream. 23/58.5cm (from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube).

32.75 (top tube stand over height). Based on the above geometry, the bike would be ideal for cyclists 5'9" - 6'1" in height. The bike shows cosmetic wear with paint/decal lettering abrasions throughout (paint nicks retouched for protection and aesthetics). One small cosmetic ding on the top tube (does not affect the frame's integrity in any way).

Some pitting on the chromed stays and fork ends. Just the right amount of patina on this one showing its vintage. A great example of a classic road bike that was loved and enjoyed over the years. This reconditioned bike is ready to hit the roads and will provide many years of riding pleasure.
