1960 Schwinn Wasp -mens Heavyweight -balloon Tires -restored! Nice Vintage Bike

  

For sale is a 1960 Schwinn Wasp. I restored this bike a few years ago.

According the serial number on the left rear dropout (K040583) it was made on 10/18/60, the last year for this paint scheme & chain guard style. I never forgot how it felt to ride it, and after he passed I decided to find one exactly like his and restore it. My bike is a west coast bike and has 26 Schwinn Tubular S2 rims, Schwinn springer fork and a Bendix 2-speed kickback hub. The 2-speed hub was completely rebuilt with a new NOS index spring so it shifts perfectly.

As you can see, I went all out on this bike, restoring everything. It rides like a dream. The original paint on the bike was black & white.

I had the paint on the frame, fenders, forks and chain guard done professionally. The tires are reproduction 26 x 2.125 Schwinn Typhoon cords. Lots of re-chromed original parts, like the fender braces, cranks, sprocket, AS bolts, etc. These bikes are getting pretty rare, especially ones that have vintage springer forks and a 2-speed rear hub. Personally I like the look of these over the Black Phantoms even though they share a lot of the same parts i.

Cantilever frame, chain guard style. This one stands out like a vintage hot rod when I'm out riding it. Well, my family wants to throw all our bikes in the truck and go for bike rides, but I just can't bring myself to "throw" this restored bike (that I spent a great deal of time restoring) in my truck and risk damage to it. I only ride it around near my house, and it sits at home most of the time. So I've decided to get a beater vintage Schwinn to "throw" in my truck instead, and sell my restored 1960 Schwinn Wasp.
